Spheris Showcases Versatility of Clarity™ Clinical Documentation Platform

Franklin, Tenn — February 26, 2007 — Spheris will unveil seven distinct modules of its new Clarity™ technology platform today at the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) tradeshow in New Orleans, Louisiana. Each Clarity module represents complementary functionality designed to deliver a complete and seamless platform for clinical documentation. Since the initial release of Clarity in October 2006, strong demand for the platform has enabled Spheris to accelerate Clarity implementation schedules with dozens of clients across the U.S.

The Clarity solution includes front-end and back-end speech recognition, dual electronic physician signature, comprehensive monitoring and reporting tools, quality control auditing capabilities, and more. Available as a stand-alone technology for in-house medical transcriptionists or in concert with Spheris' global network of more than 5,500 medical language specialists, Clarity enables clients to configure a technology platform uniquely designed to meet diverse needs across the entire healthcare enterprise while lowering overall clinical documentation costs.

“We believe Clarity's versatility is unmatched in the clinical documentation technology industry,” said Spheris CIO Joe Degati. “We work with our clients to design the best system for their needs, capable of supporting the full range of technology available today.”

West Tennessee Healthcare (WTH) in Jackson, Tenn., recently selected the Clarity platform in combination with outsourced clinical documentation services from Spheris. WTH chose Spheris based on its service levels and the versatility of its Clarity technology.

"Spheris provides West Tennessee Healthcare with a comprehensive, integrated technology solution for voice and text that allows our in-house medical transcriptionists to utilize the same Clarity application that Spheris' outsource staff will be using,' said Tracy Hickey, MBA, RHIA, Director of Health Information Management at WTH. ”This means that we can more easily shift work as our volume fluctuates“resulting in improved, consistent turnaround time and a streamlined workflow."

WTH operates six hospitals, including a large tertiary care center. The Clarity platform provides WTH with a single technology solution for voice capture and document creation for all departments throughout the entire enterprise. Spheris' medical language specialists will also supplement WTH's in-house staff of medical transcriptionists, allowing the organization to meet its full needs and drive efficiencies with just one vendor instead of multiple providers.

From voice capture, document creation and editing to approval and distribution, each Clarity module integrates into a single, comprehensive technology platform without the need for multiple interfaces. This design should make Clarity more efficient and reliable than competing platforms that attempt to connect various technologies from a number of different vendors. Clarity's complete workflow management system is designed to enable the seamless integration of all acute care hospital departments, including radiology, emergency medicine and HIM, with their ancillary non-acute clinics across a health system enterprise.

“Future expandability is key for healthcare facilities considering a clinical documentation platform investment,” stated Degati. “Modern hospitals, clinics and private physician practices require a platform that is able to fully integrate new technologies and functionalities without sacrificing reliability. Clarity is designed to allow an organization to add and roll out new modules at its own pace.”

Spheris product specialists will demonstrate Clarity's comprehensive speech recognition and document management capabilities at the HIMSS convention, Booth #6911, beginning Monday at 1:30 p.m. CST.
