Spheris Releases Clarity™ Cornerstone for Clinical Documentation
Advanced Speech Understanding Increases Report Accuracy for Medical Language Specialists
FRANKLIN, Tenn. September 03, 2008 Spheris has released the latest version of its Clarity™ Cornerstone platform for medical language specialists, blending back-end speech understanding by M*Modal with Spheris' innovative workflow management solutions to offer advanced clinical documentation.
“The M*Modal speech-understanding solution, AnyModal CDS, incorporated into Spheris' Clarity Cornerstone platform can understand the context of dictation and recognize the physician's intent while adapting to a variety of speaking styles and dictation habits,” said Steven E. Simpson, Spheris' president and CEO. “The result is more accurate and complete documentation that our 5,500 medical language specialists are then responsible for editing. The increased accuracy of the initial report makes the entire clinical documentation process more efficient, which results in higher quality, faster turnaround times, and lower cost for our customers.”
Spheris' Clarity Cornerstone is a comprehensive clinical documentation application featuring proprietary tools and background functionality that allow medical language specialists to focus on the content of the text rather than on formatting, account-specific instructions and other factors that reduce productivity and negatively impact quality.
“When I became a medical transcriptionist, we were using tapes,” said Spheris Medical Language Specialist Marjorie Cheesman. “I've worked on several platforms at Spheris and elsewhere, and Cornerstone is far more user-friendly and productive. The quality of the reports coming from the speech understanding engine is great, and it increases my capacity as an MT.”
“We believe that Spheris' powerful combination of people, processes and technology will change the way the industry looks at clinical documentation,” said Simpson. “Clarity Cornerstone is allowing us to maximize the talent of our work force and laying the foundation for the physician self-edit application we are currently developing. As the engine learns, dictators become candidates for self-editing and front-end speech understanding on the same single, integrated platform. Our strategy is to put our clients on a pathway to significant savings.”
M*Modal, based in Pittsburgh, Pa., offers on-demand conversational documentation services that help healthcare providers capture discrete clinical information from dictation to generate accurate, complete and timely electronic medical records. The company's unique speech recognition and understanding technology platform, AnyModal CDS, is a vital tool that empowers physicians to capture clinical facts and orders from dictation without requiring any change in their normal dictation routines.
“Clearly, Spheris is a leader in the clinical documentation technology and services industry,” said Michael Finke, CEO of M*Modal. “By capturing structured data directly from dictation, semantic interoperability - which allows health care providers to share reports and integrate rich data into existing EHRs - is now possible. Together, I believe we can set a new standard for quality and productivity in the creation of medical records.”
