Spheris Accepted into MUSE

Franklin, Tenn — May 15, 2007 — Spheris, a leading global clinical documentation technology and service company, announced today it has been accepted into the Medical Users Software Exchange, or MUSE. With this selection, Spheris becomes the first major clinical documentation organization to be received as a MUSE Commercial Member. As an international network comprised of hundreds of healthcare organizations, MUSE provides training and educational opportunities and group problem-solving forums for its members.

Spheris supports the primary mission of MUSE, which is the exchange of ideas and information to enhance the performance of healthcare organizations that use MEDITECH health information systems. For nearly ten years, Spheris has provided clinical documentation technology and outsourced services to more than 65 such organizations throughout the United States, including nearly 40 HCA® facilities.

“As a leading developer and provider of clinical documentation technology, Spheris has extensive MEDITECH experience and expertise to share with MUSE members,” said Spheris COO Tony James. “MUSE provides a very valuable service to healthcare organizations as they endeavor to maximize the efficiency of their health information systems, and we are confident Spheris can be a key contributor in this effort.” Spheris employs specific IT staff who specialize in MEDITECH interface specifications and data exchange and have expert knowledge of both MEDITECH's MAGIC and Client/Server applications.

The seamless exchange of electronic data between clinical documentation technology and a healthcare organization's health information system is an essential component to improving the speed and quality of medical report creation and delivery. Ensuring the efficient, effective flow of electronic data between technologies can reduce operating costs, improve patient care and accelerate electronic health record (EHR) adoption for healthcare providers.

As a new Commercial Member, Spheris will be participating in the 2007 International MUSE Conference in San Diego, Calif., beginning May 29. The annual event provides MUSE members the opportunity to discuss common problems and best practices, attend educational seminars and develop peer networks for technical support.

“Spheris is taking an active role in driving the healthcare industry towards fast, effective data exchange between diverse healthcare facilities and divergent technologies,” said James. “Working with MUSE is just one facet of our efforts. We're also contributing resources in a number of other ways, including efforts to assist with the development of universal standards for clinical documentation, which will ultimately help eliminate the barriers to EHR adoption.”
